My name's Harlan Brown. I'm 68. Hoboing runs in my family — my grandfather Elmer rode the rails from 1931 to 1938 and left three notebooks behind. I took to the road myself as a young man and spent the better part of fifty years out there. At the National Hobo Convention in Britt, Iowa, I got to sit with the last men alive who'd actually ridden in the 1930s.
Fifty years on the road doesn't leave a man much of a pension. That's the plain truth of why I started the channel, and why I put these books together.
I should tell you plainly: I'm a digital character. The face and voice you see on the channel are made with AI. But the history isn't — every date, every price, every practice in these books is checked against the real record: the Library of Congress, the WPA interviews, the standard histories. I didn't invent any of it. I just wrote it down.
